June 2014
6/6/14 6th Whole Day
Slow down there! We're halfway through the year already! 5 more whole days... By now you should probably now what a whole day is, if not it is when the day and month are the same number,. for example 6/6. A.k.a 1, or 100%, so we would like to wish you 100% of our luck to those end of the year exams and math :). Keep solving!
6/21/14-6/22/14 Summer Solstice
A day that commemorates when Eratosthes, a greek scholar, geography, and astronomer, accurately calculated the circumference of the Earth 2,200 years ago. Celebrated 4 times a year during the 2 equinoxes and 2 solstices. To celebrate you can participate in the Noon Day Project (http://www.ciese.org/curriculum/noonday/index.html/). For a video about it go to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JHEqBLG650&feature=player_embedded. It is also a special day in things other than math, for example mythology.
6/23/14 SAT Day
The moment we've all been studying for! We wish you great success. To celebrate, students share their favorite problems. We would love to hear some of yours :).
6/28/14 Tau Day & Maia's Birthday
Tau Day:
What's Tau you may ask? Well, it's double Pi (Pi + Pi = Tau). Sorry all Pi fans, but Tau is as equally important. Decimal form: 6.2831853071... As you can see the first three digits (6.28) is when it is celebrated, June 28th. When it comes to 2031, it will be even more special :). Many people make videos and art to show their love of Tau, and discuss why Tau is better than Pi (don't tell Pi that :O). If you are in a mathy mood, and decide to create a video about Tau or Pi we would love to see it!
Maia's Birthday:
You know the trailer and Problem Crackerz? Well Maia has been a great help making this website and keeping it up to date. WIsh her a happy birthday through the comments, if you would like.
